What is ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). 

What is a Quality Management System (QMS)?

A QMS, when the previous revision ISO 9001:2008 was used, was a set of policies and procedures required to execute core business activities in a systematic manner (process approach) to provide uniformity and meet the required standard.

However the requirements for a QMS were greatly impacted with the revision in 2015, aligned to also reflect High-Level Structure, the standard now requires an organization still using the process approach to consider risk and opportunities, understand requirements of interest parties and its own context as well as how the business is affect by external issues. With the removal of mandatory procedures, organizations now have more flexibility in the design of their quality management systems. ISO 9001 becomes a business management tool and with introduction of risk based thinking helps organization to assess itself and potential risks it may face or may need to take to enhance desired outcomes, Increase Profitability, Sustainability and Growth.
